Here is a brief list of the projects on this sites and their current status. Keep scrolling down for thumbnails and excerpts.
The sections below should include all of the projects listed above but with thumbnails and a little more detail. All lists are alphabetical and some of the projects are years old!
Under Construction
- Chain and Scale Mail - I love chain mail. This is going to be a series of projects featuring jewelry, fashion items as well as armour! I want to play with both chain and scale mail.
- Claws - These are not just stick-on fingernails, oh no they are far more than that. They are articulated extensions with realistic movement and and least some lifting capability! As usual it is the mechanics and movement that I am interested in and haven't really considered the covering once it works, maybe robotic, fleshy or a combination but it would really depend on the rest of the costume in use.
- DMX Controller - I have some random DMX lights but no controller other than my laptop, one option is to make a custom DMX controller from a Raspberry Pi
- Foam Horns - This is my second attempt to make lightweight horns, my first attempt involved a 3D printer but the less said about that the better!
- LED Chandelier v2 - I've managed to get hold of another chandelier.... this seems to happen quite a lot now.
- N40L RAID - I want to Add RAID 5 but that needs an additional RAID card...
- Painting Abuse - I randomly found a painting in the street. It's not my style but its so awesome I brought it home anyway. I figure that I could use the frame if nothing else.
So I put it up in my front room, clashing with the rest of the room and a couple of years later my friends pointed out how much I need to change it!
- Rave Cave Control Panel - I want to make a porthole that shows different videos depending on which button you press as though you're looking through the porthole on a spaceship. As an additional step I'd like some buttons for sound effects and some to control an addressable LED strip... and just to make things more complex it should also control some external power for the lights already in the Rave Cave
- Turkish Lights - I bought some light in Turkey. They are awesome! Turkish wiring however leaves a lot to be desired for. First step was to rip out the speaker wire that had been used for the power! The joints had just been twisted together and wrapped with electrical tape!!!
- Wireless RGB Lights - WeMos D1 Mini boards to connect a bunch of RGB LED strips.
- Wireless Tower Light - This project is based around the NerdForge Project… I bought some WeMos D1 Minis from AliExpress to play around with this. My idea is to get my head around them by first creating one with a button and one with an LED strip and doing a simple On/Off. Then I can look at adding a …
Complete
- ATX DC Power Supply - This one is fairly straight forward! I do electronics projects as you might have noticed. Most of these projects use either 3.3V, 5V and on very rare occasions 12V. I would be nice to have a bench-top variable DC power supply but I'm skint! I do however have access to as many scrap computers as my heart desires.
- Bike & Garden Shelter - A simple premise on this one... new house, no where to store the bikes!
- CH04 – Chain Harness - Another antique bronze chain harness. This one again in several sizes of chain with the biggest being 4mm x 3mm.
- CH05 – Gothic - A Gothic style chain harness with 3 point pendants on the neck, a pentagram and faceted pendant. This one used a mix of 3mm cable chain and 2mm curb chain.
- CH06 – Gunmetal, O-Ring Choker - Gunmetal chain harness, featuring O-ring choker.
- CH07 – Gunmetal, Butt Chains - 3x4mm Gunmetal curb chain with tri-ring features and angular pendants. Two lobster clasps fasten this piece, one behind the neck and one at the lower back. It has butt chains!
- CH08 – Double chain, O-ring collar - Chunky double chain body harness. Features: Triple chain collar O-ring loop on collar Pendant hanging in the O-ring
- CH09 – Gunmetal Ribcage - Gunmetal chain harness with ribcage details and multi-strand choker.
- CH10 – Pentagram Chest Piece - A pentagram chest harness with pendant detail.
- CH11 – Chain Bra
- CH12 – Ribcage & Hearts - Ribcage style chain harness with red jewel heart details.
- CH13 – Spider Harness - Chunky chain harness with green and black jewel spider pendant detail.
- CH14 – Corpse Chain Harness - Gunmetal harness with multiple O-rings, a corpse pendant and a small gem. Lobster clasps fasten behind the neck and lower back.
- CH15 – 3 Ring Ribcage - Ribcage harness in gunmetal chain with a three ring motif at the neck. This has rectangular pendants hanging on the bottom of the sternum.
- Chandelier Earrings - This was a fairly quick simple build, some dolls house LED chandeliers soldered onto battery packs with switches. There were two different types that I tried one with a cold white light and one with a warm white light.
- Circus Sign - I want an old style circus light in the sitting room above the door. It would be good for it to be removable so that it can be taken to festivals etc.
- Contract with the Devil - The idea behind this one was just another prop to add to the combination goat / faun / devil outfit. It is going to be a blank contract for possession of a soul that I can then carry round with me and get victims / punters to sign two copies one for me and one for them.
- Control Center - I'm jealous of the boy's Rave Cave Control Panel so with the lessons learned I'm going to build myself a more basic version, he says getting carried away with the planning already.
- Disco Kitchen - Another slightly ridiculous project, I had some badly wired under counter lighting. The cables were hanging down and they were just irritating. So time for an upgrade.
- Dolls Head Lamp - I want a creepy dolls head lamp! [EDIT: I have a creepy dolls head lamp and it does make me happy, now I have left over doll parts.]
- Earrings v1 - Asymetrical, antique bronze with 2.5mm cable chain holding the pendants at different heights.
- Fire ‘Obby ‘Orse - Right then this is a request to design and come up with an 'Obby 'Orse fire costume for use by one of the UK Burners groups at this years burning man! [Edit: this was a good few years ago.]
- Fireplace - I found a fireplace in a skip.... I've been meaning to clear some space in my front room and open up the old fireplace. I guess that means its time to do it!
- Flickering Lamp - I'd thought of this and then Adam Savage beat me to it! An electronic flickering battery powered lamp. There has been a release of much more realistic electronic fire bulbs since they have started using addressable LEDs. I want to convert some of them to battery power to go in various lamps that I own.
- Goat Boy / Faun / Devil - Hairy legs and horns, what more can I say.
- Gypsy Space Caravan - I was going to a festival and had spotted a cart/trolly in Asda to drag the boy around in. Weather forecast was scorching sun and/or thunderstorms! So commenced "Operation Gypsy Space Caravan"
- Hare Ears - The idea is to make some clip-on hare ears for a Mad March Hair costume. They are going to be long and shaped so they are not just the 2D cheap ones you get on a headband!
- Knife Throwing Board - Not many how-to's on this one as I just built it out of random stuff I had lying around. The idea was for a table that could be stood one one end to throw knives at!
- Kraken Lamp - Roadside find that I couldn't walk past made into something I'd actually keep.
- LED Chandelier - The LED Chandelier is to be set up for lighting up either market stalls or as a feature piece within festival tents.
- Master / Slave Coin - A coin labelled Master on one side and Slave on the other, for various magic tricks.
- Mirror Wall - I added a wall of mirrors to go opposite the aerial points and to try and get more light into the front room.
- N01 – Byzantine Antique Bronze - A delicate byzantine weave in in antique bronze. The rings are from 0.7mm wire have an OD of 4mm. There is no rear clasp on this necklace, the pendants on the front feed through a ring.
- N03 – Red Copper - Red copper necklace, can be made to fit any neck size or be adjustable.
- N04 – Gunmetal, Chain Pendant
- N06 – Gunmetal Multistrand - ck and ring multistring, gunmetal multi-sting necklace.
- N07 – Multiring Necklace - A multiring gunmetal necklace with triple intricate chain and a lobster clasp.
- N08 – Gunmetal Choker - A gunmetal choker featuring multiple sizes of O-ring, angular pendants and with an adjustable clasp.
- Packaging - This is my first trial run for some packaging options. I like this style and I think I'm going to stick with it.
- Pirate Costume - So, it might be noted that I love pirate costumes and stuff! So this is an ever ongoing costume for me. Here's an ever growing source of some supplies and inspiration.
- Pump Up the Volume Middle Finger Light - I love Pump Up the Volume.... I want the middle finger light to go above my work desk. I think I can do it easily enough with a USB LED bulb thingy as I have a load spare. Now I just need to track down some source photos and details.
- Rigging a suspension point - I've been asked this a few times now so I'm putting together some information here. I'm also buying a new house soon so will be able to add them wherever I want!
- Ringmaster - I love the circus, I do lots of circus stuff, I help at a circus festival... I need a ringmaster costume!
- Shelving - I've decided to do a lot more shelving in my dining room/gym as the space isn't used well and it could be a lot less cluttered. I'm going to use scaffold board, belt sanders, blow torch, stain and varnish for the shelves. See the table build for more details.
- Shield - I have a 5 year old.... we have foam swords, I now have an excuse to make some plywood shields.
- Side Drawers - Yet another roadside find. It needs a lot of TLS but I've got plans.
- Sith - Star Wars costume required for a party, I've previously done the Princess Leia (buns and white) and Yoda costumes so decided to go with the Sith costume. It'll look good with a fire sword or my glow staffs.
- Sound System - OK…. so I like tinkering and I started off with some 12V computer speakers that I could plug my MP3 player / Laptop / Phone into. That works fine enough and because I found some free ones that worked I never bothered sorting anything else out. Then I decided that I wanted the option of a little a little more oomph! ...and what the hell, why not make it myself.
- Steampunk Gun - Steam punk accessories and equipment that can be used with many costumes.
- Table - I found a broken table by the side of the road. I wasn't planning on making a table but the base I found was cool and I obviously need more projects.
Backlog
- Audio Switch - I want an audio switch, probably 4-in-4-out. I currently have a 1-in-3-out switch but I still find myself unplugging things as I want other audio sources.
- Cave Girl - I'm thinking if I need to use any buttons then I can use 'horn' buttons although they wouldn't have been around for a long time its not like its an accurate costume!
- Dance Lights - Simple idea…. Pedestrian crossing lights with the words: Don’t Walk (in red) Dance (in green)
- Flamethrower - Another fire toy for me to play with… I often rant about the dangers of fire breathing but all that discussion is covered on the Home Of Poi site – Dangers of Fire Breathing. So rather than breathing fire its more impressive awe-inspiring to build your own flamethrower! I’m not going into too much detail here as I’m not sure of the legalities but it will be a gas fuelled flame thrower and NOT a liquid fueled flame thrower (much safer!).
- Harley & Joker - Another great couples costume! A purple suited Joker and suicide squad era Harley I think is the best pairing although there would be some great red and black latex options for Harley.
- Helper Robot - Helper bot is intended to be a tracked robot with both autonomous (making it a robot) and remote control. The first prototype will be a small scale working model that I can then scale up to a full size version.
- Logo Template - I have a logo... what you didn't know? If I'm going to repeat this logo in lots of places it would be nice to have a template I can use for spray painting, possibly various different sizes
- Mad Max Post Apocalypse - Possibly the coolest genre of costume that is going and the new film with Tom Hardy is no exception.
- Morticia & Gomez
- Narnia Lamp - The basic idea is to have a low power LED victorian lamp that can be broken down into sections and easily moved about. The lamp should be capable of being powered from a portable solution, such as a deep cycle battery and solar panel hook up. The idea is to have the whole system portable for use at markets (to cast general lighting on a market stall) and outside tents at festivals.
- Raspberry Pi Media Centre v2 - So, I still want a raspberry Pi Media centre running Kodi that will be always on and just less cumbersome than using a PC connected to the TV.
- Scaffold Bed - I want an industrial looking 4-poster-bed. I like the idea of it being scaffold pole but less chunky.
- Sci Fi Collar - The Sci Fi Collar is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while! A long futuristic looking collar / facemask / neck-piece.
- SciFi Mask - This is an idea I've had floating around for a while, since I saw you could get a gas mask for about £15! The model in the image above is an Eastern European M10 (I think). Basically I want it to breathe smoke and light up!
- Wings v1 - The idea behind this was to create a set of mechanically articulated wings. They should be powered either by mechanics, pnumatics or hydralyics. Its the actual maechanics that I’m really interested in and have in mind a finshed product that is either styalised stem/cyber punk or devil/dragon wings. I have a feeling that I will simply build two sets once I have the mechanics working neatly and simply. There are several versions around that are controlled by moving the upper arms but these have never appealed to me!

- 3.5mm Input to Car Stereo - This content is restricted to subscribers
- Exchange 2013 - This content is restricted to subscribers
- Geodome - I love Geodomes! There I've said it, you can argue till your are blue in the face that teepee's are more practical, yurts are more traditional or a marquee is more user firendly... none of them are as cool as a geodome!
- HP Microserver N40L – SSD in the DVD Slot - I've got a spare SSD.... why not stick it in the DVD slot and free up a 3.5" caddy bay! I don't need to but what the hell.
- Lighting Rig - I want to build a lighting rig. In fact I want to build a couple of lighting rigs. I think I can canabalise a kids trampoline to do this. Before anyone whinges, I've got another trampoline from freecycle and the boy gets to choose his favorite before I hack apart the other!
- PiBot - Robots... I love Robots! I've been looking at various robots for years and now happen to have a spare Pi lying around. I want to spend as little as possible which is handy as I already have a Pi and a wireless dongle. This should cover me for the brain of the robot and I can publish a webpage to a webserver running on the Pi which allows me control over the GPIO pins (General Purpose Input Output).
- Raspberry Pi Media Center - I'm a geek! I don't have a TV, I don't have an XBox / Playstation / Wi... I do have a server though which holds lots of media that I like to play back through my laptop or on a nice Samsung monitor. Unfortunately this does mean either letting people loose on my server to play things back as well as adding a graphics card with HDMI and a sound card.
- Throne - I want to build a throne, for my front room, because it would be awesome.
- Van Lighting - I'm a geek and I love lighting but for some reason I've never really sorted the lighting in the van. Time for that to change.
